Outraged pub landlord fumes at ‘freeloaders’ who think complaining gets them freebies

A pub landlord has lashed out at freeloaders who think complaints can get them free stuff.

The unnamed owner of The Trumpet Inn in Evesham, Worcestershire, was responding to a one-star review left by a customer online.

The reviewer accused the pub, which has an average 4.5/5 rating on Google, of having “rubbish quality food and beer”. They also claimed that the pies they ordered were “so chewy” they could not eat them.

In response to their claims, the owner of the successful pub took aim at a customer woman they accused of trying to get a “freebie”.

The customer wrote: “Don’t ever go here they are very rude staff rubbish quality food and beer. Ordered two steak pies which were so chewy we could not eat.

“So sent back and was told to not come back even though they were paid for. Avoided [sic] this place at all cost.”

The Metro reported the Trumpet Inn was given just one star out of five for atmosphere, food, and service, a score which irritated the manager.

In a comment underneath the review, they revealed that the customer who left the review had been banned earlier this year.

They claimed the customer’s sole aim was not to honestly review the pub but to get a free meal instead.

They said: “The fact you didn’t get a meal, because we banned you months ago, says everything. Every time you came in, you complained just to try and get a free meal.”

They added that “to turn this around we advise all pubs in the Evesham area not to serve” the woman and her partner. They claimed that all the couple wanted “is a freebie”.

The positive reception of the Trumpet Inn is reflected by how people have reviewed it on Tripadvisor where it has received hundreds of five-star reviews.

One person wrote: “Only popped in for a drink, but the food passing by looked too good to miss. I had faggots, chips & peas, the wife had roast pork with all the trimmings.

“Both were delicious! The bar staff and the locals were all really friendly and made the experience even better. Every other table was reserved so I’d recommend booking.”

Another person said: “Lovely friendly pub. The food was brilliant! I had the pie. So much filling was well cooked! The fish and chips looked amazing! Plus the faggots.

“Very nice atmosphere. Would recommend if you like a good meal at a good price I would go.”
