One of the greatest musical comedies ever made, The Blues Brothers, is airing tonight at 9 pm on ITV4.

Directed by John Landis, the film stars John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood Blues, two brothers who set out to save their childhood orphanage from financial ruin. The plot may seem simple, but it’s the vibrant music and outrageous antics that have turned this film into a beloved classic.

Released in 1980, The Blues Brothers is filled with memorable performances by some of the greatest musicians of all time, including Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Ray Charles, and Cab Calloway. The film blends car chases, slapstick comedy, and unforgettable musical numbers, making it a thrilling ride from start to finish. Songs like “Soul Man” and “Think” are iconic, and the high-energy musical performances bring a unique charm to the film.

The movie follows the brothers as they embark on a wild adventure across Illinois, recruiting musicians for their band to raise the money needed to save the orphanage. Along the way, they run into a series of misadventures, including a relentless police chase, and eventually find themselves in a memorable confrontation with the law.

Despite its initial mixed reception, The Blues Brothers went on to become a cult classic.

The film has received numerous accolades, including a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Original Song for “Old Landmark.” In 2004, it was selected for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Tune in tonight at 9 pm on ITV4 to experience this classic in all its musical glory.
