There’s one rather important cleaning job that should not be forgotten about in the run-up to Christmas and should really be done before your big Christmas shop.
With Christmas fast approaching, anyone hosting festivities this year is likely in the process of getting their home looking and feeling guest-ready.
And well, it can certainly be delightful that hosting all your loved ones during the festive season can be a joyous experience; getting the house, and especially the kitchen, ready before their arrival can be stressful.
Luckily, Nancy Emery, a cleaning expert at Tap Warehouse, has highlighted a key task that must be done before your big Christmas shop – cleaning out your fridge.
While this can certainly be a long and boring task, there’s no better time to do it than in the days before your festive food shop.
Nancy said: “Before stocking up, take the time to give your fridge a thorough clean, removing any out-of-date products, crumbs and spills that could later cause mould and odours, spoiling your fresh festive treats.
“This is also a good time to clean the fridge coils, which are often overlooked. Dirty fridge coils can shorten the life of your appliance as they overload the compressor, resulting in a repair that could cost hundreds of pounds.
“A little hoover of the fridge coils just once a year, especially if you have pets, will go a long way to keeping your fridge functioning efficiently. Don’t forget to turn the appliance off first before cleaning!”
Another tip Nancy has shared is to deep clean your extractor fan and remove any dust, as this will help you get the most out of it during the festive season.
Sharing instructions on cleaning the fan, she explained: “Begin by turning off the power and removing the fan cover to soak in soapy water. Then, using a duster, clean behind the back of the fan blades before scrubbing the inside of the fan with soapy water.
“Wait for everything to dry before replacing the cover. Remember, extractor fans can aid in removing bad odours as well as mould, so they need to be in perfect working order post-crimbo dinner!”
