Princess Kate is well-known for having a number of hobbies, with the future Queen being a fan of a range of different sports and adventurous activities ranging from tennis and scuba diving to cold water swimming.

While some of the hobbies enjoyed by the Princess of Wales, 42, are also shared by her husband Prince William, the mum-of-three reportedly has one hobby that the future King can not relate to.

Speaking before about gardening, the Prince of Wales, also 42, admitted that he leaves it up to Princess Kate as he has “no idea” what to do.

According to The Mirror, he once said: “My wife does all the gardening. I really like it, but I have no idea what I’m doing.”

Like the King and Queen Camilla, Princess Kate has a passion for nature and reportedly spends a lot of time outside tending to the gardens around her Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.

Her love for the outdoors was shown on a public scale when she created the Back to Nature Garden at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2019, much to the delight of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

In 2019, the princess also joined a community project at King Henry’s Walk Garden in Islington designed to unite gardening enthusiasts in London.

On various engagements, Kate has also spoken about the importance of nature for young children and their development.

Although the princess is unlikely to have spent as much time gardening this year, especially after she was recovering from her abdominal surgery in January and her later cancer diagnosis, one royal expert believes the hobby could have been a source of comfort to the future Queen at times.

According to The Mirror, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond told Notebook: “Catherine has always taken great strength and inspiration from nature and outdoor life. And there is something so reassuring and optimistic about the green shoots of spring – especially if you’ve planted the seeds yourself.

“She will have drawn on her love of gardening and nature – perhaps sowing seeds with her children and seeing those first green shoots appear. New life. New hope. A new cycle.”

Princess Kate has stepped out for very few public engagements this year following her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy treatment.

She is next expected to appear in public on December 6 for her Together at Christmas carol service.
