American sprinter Christian Coleman was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting an officer without violence in Winter Park, Fla. Thursday, according to court records.
Coleman was arrested during the same traffic stop in which police arrested his girlfriend, fellow sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson for driving over 100 mph in a gray Aston Martin, per documents viewed by The Post.
Fellow Team USA sprinter Twanisha Terry received a ticket for stopping on a limited-access highway after she pulled up to the scene wanting to know what was going on with her friends, according to an arrest affidavit.
Terry was free to leave the scene and took Richardson’s purse with her.
During Richardson’s traffic stop, Coleman pulled over on the side of the road in a black Jeep and stood outside of his car before he approached the scene, when police instructed him to walk back to his vehicle.
Police said Coleman wouldn’t comply with orders to not involve himself in the traffic stop and that he attempted to explain why Richardson was speeding repeatedly.
Coleman refused to provide identification to police and was arrested for resisting.
Police added that Coleman allegedly dropped an object in the grass as he returned to his Jeep, and a “glass smoking device” was found in the center console of his car.
They also found 20 grams of marijuana, according to court records.
A spokesperson for the Orange County Sheriff’s Office told TMZ that Richardson was “dangerously tailgating and traveling across lanes of travel to pass other motorists.”
Richardson told police that she was speeding because her back tire was underinflated, adding that her phone accidentally changed the car’s settings, and she didn’t know how to fix it.
Richardson and Coleman’s vehicles were towed away and they were escorted to an Orange County jail in separate cars.
He posted $1,000 cash bond later that night, paying $500 for himself and Richardson.
Richardson was arrested on one charge of dangerous excessive speeding and cited for four civil traffic infractions.
It came after Richardson was arrested for domestic violence following an incident with Coleman at the Seattle–Tacoma International Airport last July.
