It certainly should not have been a surprise based on his lack of playing time and targets, but Odell Beckham Jr. claims he didn’t see his recent release by the Giants coming.

OBJ posted a reply Saturday to an Instagram user who had criticized Giants coach John Harbaugh for cutting the veteran receiver this week after he recorded zero receptions on just one target over the first three games of the season.

“I’m super smart, but I didn’t see this one my brotha,” Beckham wrote in a response to a post by an IG user with the account name Bcas. “They got me!!!”

The 33-year-old Beckham, who previously starred for the Giants from 2014-18, beat the odds to make the team out of training camp after signing a non-guaranteed contract worth $1.3 million in the offseason.

The three-time Pro Bowl receiver did not play an NFL game last season due to injuries, but he played the 2023 season for Harbaugh with Baltimore.

With Malik Nabers returning this season from a knee injury, Beckham was also behind receivers Darnell Mooney and rookie Malachi Fields on the depth chart at the position.

“I came in HUMBLY, took [the] vet min then EARNED my spot n didn’t say nothing bout no $$$,” Beckham wrote. “It didn’t hurt me but it did when they cut me like that, cause part of me is like I shoulda known better.”

Beckham didn’t play in the NFL in 2025, but most recently recorded nine catches for 55 yards for the Dolphins in 2024.

That followed a one-year stint with the Ravens, where he accumulated 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns after recovering from a torn ACL.
