Oasis fans stunned over 'bargain' cost of 1996 tickets compared to today

Oasis fans were left stunned by the soaring ticket prices for the band’s 1996 tour – as Liam and Noel Gallagher gear up to hit the road again from July 4.

With tickets in high demand, nostalgic supporters are digging out their old stubs, revealing the stark contrast in prices from the band’s heyday.

A Reddit post showcased a collection of 90s tickets, including Oasis gigs at Maine Road and Cardiff International Arena, alongside other big names like Pearl Jam and Shed Seven, and festivals headlined by Blur and Kula Shaker.

One fan, posting their old Oasis ticket, simply captioned it: “Oasis 1996 prices.” Another savvy user calculated the cost with inflation, suggesting a mere £34.50 would be the equivalent today to see Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallgaher in their prime.

The comparison sparked a wave of jokes among fans about the difference between the ’96 prices and the hefty fees for the 2025 tour. One user fumed: “£34.50 barely covers the Ticketmaster fees for the resale tickets!”

Another added: “They’ve outpaced inflation by a lot then.” Others offered insights into the changing dynamics of the music industry, saying the lack of album releases would hinder some tours.

They explained: “Ticket prices these days are ridiculous, but artists used to tour to promote an album. Nowadays it’s the other way around since no one buys records anymore.”

Oasis fans were left in shock as the band’s dynamic pricing saw summer gig tickets skyrocket to over £148. The demand was so high that some prices surged to a staggering £348, with Ticketmaster resale tickets listed for as much as £648.

This comes as iconic musicians such as Neil Young and The Cure take a stand against touts, resellers and Ticketmaster, exerting more control over their concert ticket pricing.

The Cure’s lead singer Robert Smith previously stated: “I thought, ‘We don’t need to make all this money’ You don’t want to charge as much as the market will let you. If people save on the tickets, they buy beer or merch. There is goodwill, they will come back next time. It is a self-fulfilling good vibe and I don’t understand why more people don’t do it.”

Neil Young, who will headline Glastonbury Festival, has since announced he will no longer offer Platinum tickets at his shows.

He wrote: “My management and agent have always tried to cover my back on the road, getting me the best deals they could. They have tried to protect me and the fans from scalpers who buy the best tickets and resell them at huge increases for their own profits.

“Ticketmaster’s high priced Platinum tickets were introduced to the areas where scalpers were buying the most tickets for resale. The money went to me.

“That did not feel right. Very soon, Platinum tickets will no longer be available for my shows. I have decided to let the people work this out. Buy aggressively when the tickets come out or tickets will cost a lot more in a secondary market.”

“Official Platinum Tickets” currently listed on Ticketmaster for Oasis’ remaining dates can be bought from upwards of £560 on some show dates.
