Angry locals at a popular Bonfire Night celebration turned on Ticketmaster after the fiasco that left fans unable to get tickets to the Oasis reunion tour next year.
A giant 11-metre tall effigy of the ticket-selling platform was depicted as a figure in a suit with money bursting out of its pockets while holding onto puppet versions of Liam Gallagher and Noel Gallager.
Edenbridge Bonfire Night in Kent has increased in popularity over the years for its famous effigies of prime ministers and celebrities.
Last year, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan faced the flames due to his expansion of ULEZ – a vehicle charge that left many drivers furious.
Previous politicians falling victim to the town’s annual ritual include Liz Truss with a lettuce laughing on her shoulder – a nod to the live stream of a lettuce predicting the vegetable lasting longer than Truss in office.
Boris Johnson was also featured in 2018 “as a result of his continuing habit to be in the news and his never-ending gaffes”. He was shown to be wearing shorts with Brexit buses for feet.
One of the effigy creators, Andreas Deans, told Sky News: “We wanted to remind people that it doesn’t always have to be politicians who we create for our annual event,
“The Ticketmaster ticket fiasco has affected a lot of different age groups, such is the appeal of Oasis, and I know many fans were very unhappy… when they discovered the price of the tickets.”
She added: “No one likes being taken advantage of”.
Oasis fans were left angered following the announcement of their reunion tour as they queued for hours on the ticket site, only to be met with dynamic pricing. This means some people were paying higher prices due to increased demands with costs doubling from £148 to £355.
Fans who did pay the higher prices for tickets may also now be at risk of losing them due to a potential recall. They would then be resold at a lower price due to the uproar.
The town’s effigy creators reiterated that the Oasis duo were not the targets, ‘it is the corporate giant of Ticketmaster’ that they are outraged with.
“Although our effigy includes Liam and Noel Gallagher, they are not our target, it is the corporate giant of Ticketmaster we have gone with this year,” says Reece Hook, another effigy creator.
“We are all big Oasis fans and wish them a very successful tour,” he says.
