The 28-year-old jogger savagely stabbed on a Brooklyn promenade Friday night spoke to her dad on the phone just minutes earlier, law-enforcement sources revealed to The Post — along with other eerie new details in the baffling case.
Bank teller Katie Suarez — who has been declared brain dead and is on life support at NYU Langone Hospital since the apparent random assault — initially met up with her mom shortly after the daughter left work around 6:30 p.m., sources said.
The pair got together near the TD Bank where Suarez worked in the Bay Parkway shopping plaza in Gravesend — a meet-up that was a family ritual after Suarez clocked out, with her dad usually joining them at this point, except he was running late that night, sources said.
The daughter had already changed out of her bank clothes and into her running gear and handed her mom her work garb to hold for her — then headed off alone for a run along the Belt Parkway westbound toward the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, sources said.
The path starts at Bay Parkway and ends at 14th Avenue and Bay 8th Street, sources said.
Suarez’s dad eventually caught up with the mom, and around 8 p.m., phoned their daughter — a graduate of Brooklyn College Kingborough Community College and a native of El Salvador, according to her LinkedIn — to talk about where they could meet up, sources said.
He told Suarez that he and her mother were still by her job and asked where she was, sources said.
She said she was about a half-mile away — a 5-minute jog for her, sources said. There were no red flags during the chat, sources said.
A short time later, when Suarez didn’t appear at their agreed-upon meeting spot, the dad called her again, only this time, she didn’t pick up, sources said.
The parents split up to look for their daughter, and the dad ended up finding her — stabbed twice in the neck, on both her right and left side — near Bay 17th Street and Shore Parkway and frantically pleaded with a passer-by to call 911, sources said.
Investigators believe the attack was random, with nothing indicating any sex-crime motive or robbery, given her pink cell phone and jewelry were still with her, sources said.
Suarez was able to run another roughly 100 feet after being attacked before collapsing, sources said.
Images from the gory scene showed blood splattered on a nearby guardrail.
“It’s very sad,” a neighbor said Saturday. “I’m sad for everybody, but this is close. It’s too much right now. It’s a mad world.”
Suarez had worked as a teller at the bank branch for more than five years, her LinkedIn said.
Sources have said Suarez often jogged along the path, which features breathtaking views of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge and Staten Island.
It is popular with walkers, joggers, bikers and fishermen.
Police have launched a manhunt for the attacker.
The tragic victim’s family did not comment Sunday at their Brooklyn home, where a Salvadoran flag hung in the window.
