New York City just had its safest January ever, with the number of shootings and murders plummeting to record new lows, NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said Monday.

The number of homicides dropped 60% last month and shooting incidents were down 20% compared to January 2024, according to the commish.

“Compared to all other Januarys, we have seen the lowest number of shooting incidents, the lowest number of shooting victims, and the lowest number of homicides on record,” Tisch said on FOX 5′ “Good Day New York” as she touted the latest crime stats.

“I think people feel safer in the city, and the numbers just really tell an incredible story about what the men and women of the NYPD are doing.”

Meanwhile, burglaries dropped nearly 30% last month compared to the same month a year prior.
Retail theft was down 16% and robberies dipped nearly 10%, Tisch added.

“It’s the right strategy — and the cops are executing it brilliantly,” she said.
