Nottingham Forest’s clash with West Ham was halted in the 49th minute after a spectator suffered a medical emergency in the stands, with the home physio rushing across the pitch to attend the scene. At the City Ground, shortly after half-time, referee Craig Pawson blew his whistle to stop play after being alerted to the emergency.
After being given the go-ahead, a Forest medical darted across the pitch and cut through the players to treat the person involved. The two teams were deadlocked at 0-0 at the time of the incident.
The disruption took three minutes in total and play was resumed with 52 minutes on the clock, in a match that was surrounded in contention between two head coaches under pressure.
Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo openly admitted that his relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis had “changed” amid reports that Brendan Rodgers was being sought out to replace the Portuguese coach.
And a disappointing start to the season for West Ham put Graham Potter at the top of the sack race, along with Nuno, following miserable defeats against Chelsea, Sunderland and Wolves in the Carabao Cup.
And a match appearing to be heading towards a goalless draw that wouldn’t lift the pressure off of either Nuno or Potter, three goals in the final six minutes sent it into a late frenzy.
Jarrod Bowen broke the deadlock on the 84th minute, twisting and turning before rifling an effort past Mats Selz from the edge of the box.
Four minutes later, impact substitute Crysencio Summerville was fouled inside the penalty area and Lucas Paqueta stepped up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way.
In stoppage time, a revitalised Hammers side sealed all three points when Callum Wilson buried a header from close range.
