More Brits of late have been choosing to make the most of what the UK has to offer when enjoying days out or staycations. Being an island, there are many beaches and scenic seaside spots to choose from around the country. According to a 2024 report by Consumer Intelligence, 52% of Brits were choosing to holiday within the UK last year. And the most popular places to go tend to be Bournemouth, Brighton, Newquay, Scarborough, Blackpool, Cornwall and Devon.

A whopping 67% of Brits said they planned to holiday in the UK for convenience and to cut costs, and 34% were going to go on at least two domestic trips.  As a result, many travellers are going to be looking for quieter, lesser-known places for a more tranquil holiday experience. Luckily, experts at Simply Sea Views has listed 10 of the UK’s “best hidden coastlines for wild beaches and secret coves”. Here, visitors can “escape the ice cream queues and feel like you’ve discovered somewhere truly off the map”.

Simply Sea Views describes Burnham Overy Staithe Creek in Norfolk as “hidden behind a sea wall”, and “reached via a dusty path”.

Specialists add that the area is a “peaceful tidal creek with a timeless, nostalgic feel”, and wooden boats bob gently at the end of the salt marshes.

In addition, a long boardwalk leads out to the golden dunes of Holkham. “It’s the kind of place where crab sandwiches are a must, after paddleboarding with curlews and seals,” experts add.

They also list a few things that are good to know, including the fact that there is imited free parking available at the harbour.

It is best to arrive early during peak times.

Dogs are also allowed, but should be kept on leads due to nearby wildlife habitats.

Visitors are also advised that they can stay nearby at “stylish boltholes or coastal inns”, from £130 to £200 per night.
