Morocco is on the brink of becoming Africa’s most visited country, with nearly 16 million tourists welcomed by November 2024.

This is a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2023.

Authorities are optimistic about achieving 17.5 million visitors in 2025, further cementing the nation’s position as a global travel hotspot.

Marrakech, known as the “Red City,” remains Morocco’s crown jewel, drawing millions of tourists annually.

Its blend of vibrant culture, historical landmarks, and excellent connectivity via low-cost airlines makes it a preferred destination for international travelers and Moroccan expatriates alike.

The surge in tourism can be attributed to Morocco’s dedicated efforts to promote its diverse attractions, ranging from the bustling souks of Marrakech to the serene beaches of Agadir and the cosmopolitan appeal of Tangier and Casablanca.

Geopolitical factors have also influenced travel patterns, with tourists like a French visitor in Marrakech opting for Morocco over other destinations such as Lebanon, citing security concerns in the Middle East.

Tourism is a vital pillar of Morocco’s economy, contributing 7% of its GDP.

In 2024 alone, the sector has generated €9.2 billion, with experts forecasting record-breaking revenues by year’s end.

French nationals continue to lead as the largest group of foreign visitors, bolstered by 34 direct flights between France and Marrakech.

British tourists are also flocking to Morocco in greater numbers, with a 47% increase in arrivals in 2024 compared to 2023.

Looking ahead, Morocco’s tourism sector is poised for further growth.

The nation will host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2025, which is expected to attract around 500,000 visitors, and its confirmed bid to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup promises to draw even greater global attention.
