The Norfolk deaths have become 2024’s first major mystery, with several questions left unanswered following the tragic discovery of four bodies on Friday, January 19.

Police were called to a property in Costessey, Norfolk, at 7am last week following two 999 calls – the earliest of which was left unanswered – and used force to gain entry.

After entering the home, they discovered the bodies of Bartlomiej Jakub Kuczynski, 46, Downreuang, seven, Jasmin, 12, and Bartlomiej’s 36-year-old sister-in-law Kanticha Noon.

Once the four bodies were recovered, it emerged that police had previously contacted the address in December 2023, regarding a missing persons report.

The news has panicked the local community and police have promised to launch an inquest into the incident, but officials have left a slew of unanswered questions that Express.co.uk will explore below.

Where’s the mother?

Police discovered four bodies, including Downreuang and Jasmin’s father, Bartlomiej, and his sister-in-law, Kanticha Noon.

But the children’s unnamed mother was not among the dead and her friends have no idea where she is.

Speaking to The Daily Mirror, Naty Wathanakul, one of the mum’s friends, said she was living with her family at the time.

But, while suspecting she was still likely in the UK, she didn’t know where.

Why was the sister-in-law at the family home?

Ms Noon had travelled from Thailand to visit her sister’s family, but Ms Wathanakul was unsure why.

She told the Mirror she was due to fly home in February after catching the outgoing flight on December 27.

The mother’s absence makes her presence even more questionable.

Why was there no response to the first 999 call?

Police didn’t enter the family’s home until after they received two 999 calls, the first of which came from a “man inside the address” before 6am.

Officers were not deployed until a second 999 call was made by a member of the public. less then an hour later.

Norfolk Constabulary is yet to explain why, but the department has referred itself to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) for investigation.

Chief Constable Paul Sanford said: “”Following the identification of the earlier 999 call, the constabulary referred itself to the IOPC who will now investigate. It is because of this process that I choose my words carefully; not because I don’t want to be open and honest, but because I have a duty to protect the integrity of any investigation that needs to follow.

“It will be for this investigation to identify and consider the circumstances and to consider if there were any issues with the response.”

What happened inside the house?

It is currently unclear how everyone died. Causes of death have been identified for Bartlomiej and Kanticha, who died after receiving stab wounds to their necks.

Police will carry out a post-mortem on the children on Thursday, January 25, but the details of the events leading to their deaths have not been clarified.

Officials have confirmed they are not looking for anybody else concerning the incident.

How did the children die?

There is no news, as of yet, regarding the children’s fate, relative to the January 19 incident.

As detailed above, police have not released a cause of death conclusion for the seven and 12-year-olds.

Investigators are also unsure as to who wielded the knife that killed their father and aunt.

What became of the 2023 missing person’s inquiry?

Residents at the Norfolk home made a 999 call on December 14, regarding a missing person.

But, beyond the nature of the call, there is little else known about the police response.

The lack of detail means it is unclear whether the family received official support.
