Nintendo Switch 2 getting another gaming powerhouse to showcase its power

The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been unveiled, although we’ll have to wait a little while longer for information about the release date, price, pre-orders and games.

Indeed, a Nintendo Direct presentation in April will further spotlight the console, and give fans a taste of some of the new games in development for the device.

However, it looks like one pretty significant third-party release may have leaked early, and it’s great news for fans of first-person shooters.

According to industry insider extas1s, Doom: The Dark Ages is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.

The highlight of the recent Xbox Developer Direct (outside of Ninja Gaiden 4), Doom: The Dark Ages looks like a potential game of the year contender.

A prequel to Doom and Doom Eternal, the game shifts the action to a medieval setting, complete with brutal new weapons for players to slay hordes of demons.

Doom: The Dark Ages has been announced for Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC, where it will launch in May.

With the Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly launching in either May or June, there’s a chance it could be a launch title for the upcoming device.

With the game sporting some incredible visuals, it also bodes well for the kind of experiences we can expect from Nintendo’s new console.

It lends weight to the rumour that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth could also come to the Nintendo Switch 2.

As for the Nintendo Switch 2, the console is larger than the current model, featuring a bigger screen and JoyCons.

The JoyCons will reportedly utilise technology to eliminate stick drift, as well as magnets for connecting to the display.

Judging by the announcement trailer, the JoyCons can also be used like a mouse, meaning PC-style games should work better on the Switch 2.

The kickstand is also more flexible, giving users more viewing angles when playing in handheld mode.

We’ll find out more when Nintendo holds a Switch 2 Direct on April 2.
