With the Nintendo Switch 2 release date just a couple of weeks away, fans are becoming increasingly more excited for all of the new gameplay experiences that are possible with Nintendo’s new console.
While games like Mario Kart World are getting most of the attention, retro gaming fans are arguably even more enthusiastic about the chance to play classic Gamecube titles on a modern system, complete with improved visuals and performance.
If you’re looking forward to playing iconic Gamecube releases such as F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and SoulCalibur 2, then you might want to pay a visit to the MyNintendo Store.
The official Nintendo retailer is selling Switch 2 compatible Gamecube controllers for £58.99 ahead of the console’s June 5 launch.
The only catch, however, is that you have to be a paid Nintendo Switch Online member in order to purchase the in-demand accessory.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Gamecube controllers are almost an exact replica of the original pads, albeit with one or two small changes.
For starters, it can be wirelessly connected to Nintendo Switch 2, and can be charged with a USB Type-C charging cable.
It also features a few additional buttons on top of the device, including a Home button to go back to the menu screen, as well as a Gamechat button to take advantage of the new Switch 2 feature.
As pointed out by Nintendo, the Gamecube controllers are limited to just two per customer and are not compatible with the original Switch.
It’s also worth remembering that a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership is required to play Gamecube titles on the Switch 2.
Switch Online is the Nintendo equivalent of services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass.
Priced at £17.99 per year for the standard tier or £34.99 for the Expansion tier, Nintendo Switch Online lets Switch owners play online multiplayer, while also unlocking additional benefits such as free DLC and the ability to purchase certain items from the Nintendo Store.
The highlight, however, are the retro Nintendo games playable with an active subscription. The standard tier provides access to a wide selection of NES, SNES and Game Boy titles from Nintendo’s past. This includes gems like Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Metroid, F-Zero and Mario Kart.
The Expansion tier adds games from the SEGA Mega Drive, Game Boy Advance and N64. Nintendo Gamecube titles will be playable when the Switch 2 launches in June.
