It looks like the Nintendo Switch 2 could face some serious competition if the rumours of a May release date are true.
Indeed, the Nintendo Switch 2 is tipped to launch in either May or June, which makes sense given the timing of the worldwide preview events.
However, according to a new leak, the upcoming Nintendo console could launch at the same time as one of this year’s most hotly anticipated new games.
According to Insider Gaming, FromSoftware and Bandai Namco will announce a May release date for roguelike Elden Ring spinoff Nightreign.
The Elden Ring Nightreign developer will confirm the date ahead of next week’s network test, possibly during Sony’s rumoured State of Play event.
If the reports of a May release date are accurate, then it may take some of the attention away from the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2.
Elden Ring Nightreign is a multiplayer-focused roguelike in which players attempt to take down bosses within a set period of time.
With the roguelike element upping the replay value, Elden Ring Nightreign could feature hundreds of hours of action.
Of course, with the Nintendo Switch 2 launch line-up yet to be announced, there’s always a chance it could make an appearance on the new Nintendo console.
Either way, I’m probably going to have to take some time off in oder to pack in all of this gaming in May and June.
Speaking of the Nintendo Switch 2 launch line-up, the rumours suggest it could be among the best ever.
Metroid Prime 4 is expected to launch as a cross-gen release, alongside third-party titles like Doom The Dark Ages, Starfield and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
As for the Nintendo Switch 2, the console is larger than the current model, featuring a bigger screen and JoyCons.
The JoyCons will reportedly utilise technology to eliminate stick drift, as well as magnets for connecting to the display.
Judging by the trailer, the JoyCons can also be used like a mouse, meaning PC-style games should work better on the Switch 2.
The kickstand is also more flexible, giving users more viewing angles when playing in handheld mode.
It looks like Mario Kart 9 is also in development, and based on the trailer, should support 24-person races in single and multiplayer.
