Nintendo Direct to air this week, but don't get your hopes up for Switch 2 news

Nintendo has announced plans to stream a brand new Direct conference at the end of March.

In something of a surprising move, the company will broadcast a Nintendo Direct online presentation on March 27. It’s surprising given the fact that Nintendo has already announced plans to hold a separate Direct conference on April 2.

However, while the April 2 Direct will focus on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console, this week’s presentation will feature original Switch games only.

According to Nintendo, the March 27 Direct will begin at 2pm GMT UK time and run for around 30 minutes. It will contain “information on upcoming games for Nintendo Switch”.

And don’t get your hopes up for any additional Switch 2 news or teasers, because Nintendo has completely ruled out any next-gen updates.

“There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation,” reads a Nintendo statement.

In terms of what fans can expect from the March 27 Nintendo Direct, it’s fair to assume that Metroid Prime 4 could make an appearance.

The first-person action game is one of the highest-profile upcoming releases for the original Nintendo Switch. Of course, there are rumours that the game may launch as a cross-generation release for the original Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. If this is the case, then Nintendo may choose to hold it back for the Switch 2 Direct on April 2.

Another high-profile Switch game that could appear during the March 27 Nintendo Direct is Pokemon Legends: Z-A. The open-world Pokemon game will make its debut at the end of 2025, which makes it a prime candidate for the imminent Direct event.

You can watch the Nintendo Direct conference live from 2pm GMT on March 27 by clicking play on the video below.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A is described as an “ambitious new adventure set in Lumiose City”.

Nintendo explains more: “An urban redevelopment plan is underway in Lumiose City!

“The goal: to turn it into a place Pokemon and people can truly share. Shortly after arriving, you’ll choose from one of these partner Pokemon to accompany you on your journey – Chikorita, Tepig or Totodile.”

The game is said to feature real-time Pokemon battles, unlike the turn-based action found in the classic Pokemon titles. That’s on top of new capture mechanics, as well as the return of Mega Evolutions.

As for upcoming third-party games, a recent backend Steam update for Hollow Knight Silksong has given fans fresh hope of an imminent reveal.

The Hollow Knight copyright was changed from 2019 to 2025, leading to speculation that Silksong is on course for a 2025 release.

With the original proving to be such a big hit on Nintendo Switch, it stands to reason that the sequel could headline any upcoming Nintendo Direct events.
