Nine-year-old boy dies in suspicious circumstances in UK seaside town


A nine-year-old boy has died and a man has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect in a seaside town in Devon. Police descended on Glenmore Road, Brixham, after reports of a man walking with a child who appeared unwell on Sunday (January 28).

Devon and Cornwall Police is appealing for witnesses who can help with their investigation. Emergency services attended a nearby address where the child was found.

First aid was given before he was taken to hospital, but the youngster later died. His next of kin have been informed. Devon and Cornwall Police said the death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.

A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and remains in police custody at this time, a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said.

Detective Inspector Jen Rose said: “I’m appealing to hear from anyone who was in Drew Street, Penn Lane, Castor Road, Greenswood Road and Bolton Street between 5pm and 7pm and may have witnessed the incident.

“We believe that there were members of the public who attempted to speak to the man and child.

“I’d urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to police, anyone who has footage of any kind, including dashcam, mobile phone and doorbell footage to please get in touch.”
