'Nightmare neighbour is trying to con me after parking row – I'll get the last laugh'

A homeowner believes their neighbour is trying to con them after a parking row – but is determined to get the last laugh.

A user (@Ashamed_Ladder6161) shared on the Norwich subreddit about their neighbour posting a fake letter from Norfolk County Council through their letterbox.

They said: “Just moved and had a small parking dispute with a neighbour… two days later I get a FAKE County Council letter through the door about parking. What’s my next move here?

“To be clear, it’s an edited letter from 15 years ago, with the name and date amended, but clearly a photocopy.

“The letterhead and address have changed since then, and the name signed at the bottom hasn’t worked in that position for the last eight years (I know, I called and checked).

“I’ve now reported this to the council, I’m certain impersonating the council must be some kind of crime, but what do I do next? This is both funny and slightly creepy, lol.”

The post got hundreds of upvotes and other Redditers flocked to give advice. One suggested the homeowner make a fake parking permit for their car using the same name their neighbour used in the letter.

Others suggested that the poster increase their car insurance and get a dashcam in case the neighbour decides to escalate the argument and damage the car.

Many told the homeowner that they should be nice to their neighbour to “kill them with kindness”, simply ignore them to avoid provoking them or go to the police about the neighbour impersonating the council.

Some said they should prank them back, as one suggested: “I’d personally send them back a letter from a blatantly fake department, stating that as a honoured citizen of Norwich, you’ve been given the ‘Parking Ticket to the City’, which allows you to park anywhere you’d like, including Delias box at Carrow Road and that anyone you ask should move their car for you, otherwise they’ll have Puppet Man setup outside their house…. Naked.”

Multiple repliers said something similar had happened to them or someone they know, with neighbours creating fake letters from lawyers, newspaper clippings and police warnings to scare those in the area.
