Nigel Farage: 'Donald Trump and the world followed me – I'm the father of populism!'

He said: “I’ve been coming here to CPAC for a decade now. When I first came, I was the only foreign speaker. And now we’ve got the President of Argentina, the President of El Salvador, representatives from the Netherlands, Germany, France over 20 countries represented. They’re all saying we must catch up with that guy.”

Taking aim at the globalists in mainstream politics, he said: “The globalist argument is that we’re all isolationist, little Englanders. And my whole life, a quarter of a century, has been working with other groups around Europe, forming groups in the European Parliament.”

But his focus now is on the extremism on the streets with the pro-Palestinian protests, support for Hamas terrorists, anti-semitism, an agressive form of Islam and threats to politicians which led to chaos in the UK Parliament.

“I think really, what brings people together is a belief in family, a belief in a country and a belief that actually was we’re tolerant of all religions want free speech? It’s the Judeo Christian principles, the basic underpinning of everything.

“If we’re not prepared to be robust enough to stand up and defend that, yeah, then we finish up the situation that we got into in London this week, which is horrifying. It’s so bad.”

He went on: “If you had said to me this might happen in 10 years time, I’d say ‘yeah, I think it probably will.’ But if you had said to me a fortnight ago, it’s going to happen this week, I wouldn’t have believed it.

“I mean, the sheer speed of it, intimidation, the bullying, fear, stalking corridors of Westminster. I mean, my God. Very, very serious.

“And the police giving up. The complete white flag of surrender. We’ve seen that ever since the first Palestinian demonstration. And you know the word that I’ve introduced, and I’m way ahead of everybody on this is ‘sectarianism.’ Yes, religious sectarianism, which we’ve never seen in our country.”

Farage believes that the events are “a direct consequence of mass immigration” started in the UK by Tony Blair “and continued by the Conservative Party in government”. He sees the same happening in America with Biden’s policies.

But Farage sees hope with the new international coalition of conservatives seen at CPAC this week. He recalls how he had been alone on his causes before.

“I endorsed Donald Trump publicly. I wanted to leave the European Union. I was alone but suddenly now I’m no longer Billy no mates. Before I was seen as some sort of weirdo.

“I was the first populist. The Tea Party were just boys compared to me. My first public campaign was in 1994. So I’ve been doing this for over 30 years. So to see so many people coming in the same direction of me now is very heartening. Yes I was the father of populism.”

He said that he believes this year will bring hope to coonservatives around the world.

“It’s looking like Trump’s going to win. It’s looking like the European elections are going to see a sea change in the makeup of the European Parliament. The internal threats that we’ve seen this week mean that the need for all of this to happen is quite urgent.”
