An NHS doctor who has been accused of glorifying the Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7 has worn a necklace with the number seven on it to her medical tribunal. The junior medic Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, who is training to be a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, sat before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) accused of anti-Semitism and of creating social media content which glorified the proscribed terrorist organisation Hamas.
She has previously said she “would never” condemn the October 7 attacks. She has also called a London hospital a “Jewish supremacy cesspit”.
Dr Aladwan arrived at the hearing in Manchester wearing a golden charm necklace with the number seven on it. She has previously posted the jewellery on her social media and called it “celebratory jewellery”. An earlier post showed her wearing it alongside another item, which showed a map of Palestine.
Last month she made headlines after she was cleared of similar allegations, and the tribunal ruled that comments she had made online did not amount to “bullying or harassment”. The MPTS also decided not to place any restrictions on her medical registration, as they did not believe the doctor who posted images of a Rabbi with the words “Rabbi Genocide” over the top, would be a “real risk to patients”.
She has previously taken to social media to claim that nobody was raped on October 7. Once the previous outcome was made public, the Health Secretary, Wes Streeting, said he had “no confidence in our regulation system”.
He added: “I fail to see how medics using such language with impunity doesn’t undermine confidence in the medical profession.”
The General Medical Council (GMC) subsequently re-referred Dr Aladwan for another interim orders tribunal while it continues its investigation into her.
A spokesman for the watchdog said: “The GMC will make a referral where it believes an interim order is necessary to protect the public or public confidence in doctors during an investigation.”
The new tribunal comes only 48-hours after Dr Aladwan was arrested on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred. When she was detained, she told police, “You are doing this for the Israeli Jewish lobby”.
In a video posted online an officer can be heard saying: “On 7th October, you posted a variety of communications which demonstrated support for Hamas’ attack on Israel. An attack which involved murder, rape and kidnap of Israeli citizens, all of which may be considered grossly offensive in character.”
She was also accused of delivering a speech which appeared to call for the destruction of Israel at a pro-Palestine protest in July.
Dr Aladwan has previously said that Israeli people are “worse than Nazis”, and appeared to deny the Holocaust by calling it as a “concept”. She has claimed that the hearings are an attempt by “Jewish supremacy” to “destroy [her] career”.
Her lawyers have argued that she was exercising her freedom of speech.
The hearing was adjourned today, with more legal arguments expected.
