Amazon MGM Studios has selected Denis Villeneuve to direct the next 007 movie penned by Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders.
As fans await news of the casting announcement, the next James Bond star and cast of the upcoming official video game, 007 First Light, have been revealed.
Earlier this summer, the announcement trailer unveiled a 26-year-old Bond, newly recruited by MI6, complete with the facial scar sported by the character in Ian Fleming’s novels.
Fans were quick to assess that young Dexter star Patrick Gibson appeared to be cast as the new official Bond.
IOI Studios, along with the rest of the new 007 cast, has confirmed this.
Alongside Gibson’s new Bond are Priyanga Burford as M, Lennie James as Bond’s mentor John Greenway, Kiera Lester as Moneypenny, Alastair Mackenzie as Q and Noémie Nakai as Miss Roth. Upon the unveiling, the new 007 star said, “I am so excited to finally be able to announce that I’m playing James Bond in the upcoming game 007: First Light. Working with IO Interactive and Amazon MGM to bring a fresh take on this iconic character’s origin story has been an unforgettable experience, and I can’t wait for you all to play it.”
007 First Light is the first new Bond video game in 13 years, and although we don’t yet know the new cinematic 007, this is the next official incarnation of the franchise. Gibson, 30, is best known for playing the young Dexter Morgan in Dexter: Original Sin. The Irish actor has also featured in The Tudors, Shadow and Bone and the film Tolkien.
007 First Light will be released on Nintendo Switch 2, Playstation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S on March 27, 2026.
