New Year's plunges and London parade kick off 2024 in style

These gritty girls in green decided to go with the flow of 2024 as they took part in the Loony Dook New Year’s Day Dip in the freezing Firth of Forth.

The plucky plungers were among thousands braving Britain’s icy seas for fancy dress charity swims.

Among those facing the teeth-chattering Solent at Stokes Bay in Hampshire was Scott Davis, 40.

And more than a quarter of a million spectators turned out to enjoy more costumed antics for London’s New Year’s Day Parade with 8,000 performers and giant inflatables wowing crowds.

The celebration with marching bands, cheerleaders, acrobats and kites was in front of an estimated global TV audience of 500 million.

It followed the biggest New Year fireworks display featuring drones near Big Ben.

Movie couple Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas welcomed in 2024 on holiday in India while former tennis ace and Strictly star Annabel Croft enjoyed an Alpine break as she posted a photo outside a Swiss-style ski-chalet with Happy 2024 written in the snow.

Pop legend Rod Stewart, 78, marked his Scottish roots as he and sons Alastair, 18, and Aiden, 12, adorned tartan kilts in a tribute to the singer’s father. He was joined by wife Penny Lancaster, 52.
