Most of the UK looks set to be pelted with rain at the start of next month, weather maps suggest. Forecast data collected by WXCHARTS.COM shows vast swathes of the British Isles blanketed in blue on Tuesday, September 2, with rainclouds looming across the country.
A midnight UTC that day (1am BST) a downpour looks to be hitting areas on Scotland’s western coast and islands, which could see between 2.5 and 3mm of rain per hour. Areas on the east coast, including Aberdeen, could also be in for a soaking. Parts of England’s North West, and down into the West Midlands could see between 0.2 and 2.5mm/hr at this time, with the potential for some rain in the South East and South West.
By 6am UTC (7am BST), western Scotland in the Highlands and Argyll and Bute could be experiencing around 5mm/hr. Similar amounts could be seen in eastern Northern Ireland, which could see rain across the nation. Further rain continues in parts of England’s north west and over western Wales.

The maps suggest that the heaviest rain at this time will be around an area intersecting Perth and Kinross, Aberdeenshire, and Angus in Scotland, where as much as 3.5mm/hr could fall.
Rain looks set to continue for large parts of the country by 6pm UTC (7pm BST), including through parts of southern Wales, the Midlands and the North West, and rain continuing in parts of Scotland and much of Northern Ireland.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast covering Tuesday, September 2 to Tuesday, September 16 says confidence in the details through the period is currently low.
“However, low pressure and therefore unsettled or changeable weather looks more likely. There will be the potential for periods of stronger winds at times as well.
“Whether this takes the form of further low pressure systems running in from the Atlantic, or a more slowly evolving weather pattern with the potential for heavy showers is less clear,” the government agency adds.
“Temperatures are likely to be near to, or slightly above average overall.”
