There’s nothing quite like putting on a brilliant film when you’ve got some spare time. While many adore romantic tales, animation or action, it’s fun to mix things up occasionally. And you might want something that gets your mind ticking and offers plenty of thrill!
Recently, film fans have been going mad for a brand new thriller which has been branded as “remarkable”. The Long Walk is airing in cinemas next week.
The horror and sci-fi film is based on a novel by the beloved author and director Stephen King, best known as the “King of Horror”.
The 77-year-old, who is known for writing the stories behind The Shawshank Redemption, The Shining and Misery films, has been applauded yet again for his work as people have been wowed by the highly anticipated film based on his very first novel.
Without giving too much away ahead of its release, the tale tells of contestants taking part in a Hunger-Games like competition – a gruelling long walk where there can only be one winner – the one that survives.
The film, which is just short of two hours long, has already been inundated with positive views for those who have had an early screening.
Only 43 critical assessments have come in so far, but currently the new film is ranking a 93% rating review on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a score this good early on bodes well for The Long Walk as it gets set to release.
Many have pointed out the intensity of the film and shocking scenes, while noting that you can’t tear your eyes away.
Many have also applauded the story telling, with mentions of Oscar-worthy performances and it being Stephen King’s “strongest” book to film adaption.
One reviewer from Flick Feast, said: “A gruelling yet transfixing watch…as heartwrenching as it is compelling, marking it as one of the strongest Stephen King book-to-film adaptations in recent years.”
Film producer and top Rotten Tomatoes critic, Perri Nemiroff added: “One of the things I found most remarkable about the movie is how it still manages to be soulful and have its heart firmly in the best possible place while wading into the darkness.”
Meanwhile, a magazine reporter said: “The Long Walk is the most heart-wrenching film you’ll see this year.”
One other said: “Harrowing and hypnotic in equal measure, this is Stephen King at his most stripped-back and savage, delivered with a clear-eyed sincerity that only deepens the horror.”
Another reviewer added: “The Long Walk is truly something special and just make sure to bring your tissues with you.”
The film, directed by Francis Lawrence, stars Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Ben Wang, and Mark Hamill.
Ahead of its launch, producers from Lionsgate have announced a special screening of the film in which the audience must walk on a treadmill faster than 3mph for the film’s duration – or get booted out of the cinema.
The Long Walk airs in cinemas on Friday, September 12.
