Despite the recent improvement in weather as we move into March, forecasters have warned that wintry conditions could return to certain areas. Snow is expected over parts of England and Scotland within the next few days.

WX Charts’ weather maps indicate snow descending on regions of northern England and northern Scotland on Wednesday, March 12. The snowfall is predicted to begin at 3 p.m. that day, reports Birmingham Live. Weather maps indicate snow in areas of Northumberland, Durham, and Yorkshire.

The heaviest snowfall is expected over the North Pennines, with rates of up to 2cm per hour.

Similarly, regions north of Dundee in Scotland could experience up to 2.62cm of snow per hour.

The snow is forecast to remain in northern England and southern Scotland until 12pm on Thursday, March 13, before clearing.

Separately, in its long-range weather forecast from Wednesday, March 12, to Friday, March 21, the Met Office stated: “High pressure likely to build across the UK from the northwest during the early part of this period.

“This will bring northeasterly winds during the middle of next week, with a mixture of sunny spells and some showers. The showers are likely to be most frequent in the north and east with some snow over hills. Temperatures are expected to be below normal.

“Through the end of the week and the following weekend, fine and dry conditions are likely for many areas, although a few showers are likely along coasts.

“Temperatures will likely be below normal. Into the week after, conditions will probably become milder and more changeable with some periods of rain and strong winds.”
