New Galaxy Watch rival offers one upgrade Samsung really needs to match

Along with Apple, Samsung makes some of the most popular wearables on the planet. The Korean technology giant has just launched its latest Galaxy Watch 8, which not only tracks your fitness but can even show how much sleep you’ve had and measure antioxidant levels within the body. Not to be outdone, Apple has also released a bunch of wearables, including an upgraded Apple Watch Ultra 3, which can send an emergency message via satellites and a feature-packed Watch SE, which finally gets an always-on display. It’s hard to beat these watches from Apple and Samsung, but one firm has just unveiled a device that does exactly that.

Chinese tech brand, Huawei, is bringing some new wearables to wrists and, along with ways to track your fitness and health, the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 series packs a battery that the firm is boasting lasts for up to three weeks. As a quick comparison, the Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch will only keep glowing for just a few days.

Huawei says it has made this possible thanks to an advanced high-silicon stacked battery, delivering 65 percent higher capacity than the firm’s previous models.

It’s pretty impressive, especially as one of the pain points of smartwatches has long been the constant need to refill them. It’s worth noting that the longer life is available when it “lite” mode which turn off some features but even in standard mode it should still last over a week.

The HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 and 6 PRO also include brighter screens and a robust design that uses Sapphire glass and aviation-grade titanium to stop things from getting wrecked when strapped to arms.

Of course, as you’d expect from a smartwatch, these devices will track daily activities such as running, walking, and gym workouts. They will even record that Sunday game of golf or winter skiing holidays. Plus, the WATCH GT 6 Series is the first smartwatch to offer cycling virtual power, providing cyclists with the most precise and scientifically grounded way to measure their riding intensity.

Other extras include heart rate tracking, being able to take an ECG from your wrist and getting full sleep data.

The WATCH GT 6 costs £229.99 – the WATCH GT 6 PRO costs £329.99. They both connect to Android and iPhone via the Huawei app.

Speaking about his own experience with the device, Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah, said: “I may have retired from elite running, but it’s still so important to me that I put in those miles and stay active which is why I’ve been using a Huawei smartwatch every day for over three years.

“Huawei’s GT series has always been a comprehensive tool for runners and with the addition of these new standout cycling features, the HUAWEI WATCH GT 6 Series is set to be a must-have tool for cyclists too. Plus, it caters to any style with a range of colours, sizes and finishes – it’s a smartwatch, a fitness tracker and a fashionable timepiece all in one. I’m excited to put this watch through its paces!”
