Netflix fans running out of time to watch 'masterpiece' war film compared to John Wick

Netflix fans are running out of time to watch a ‘masterpiece’ war movie that has been compared to the John Wick franchise.

This comes as updates on the film’s highly anticipated follow-up are expected imminently this week.

Which could potentially include an initial glimpse at the sequel’s trailer.

Nevertheless, viewers needing to experience the original must act swiftly as Sisu has only a restricted period remaining on the streaming service.

Checking for it currently within the application, users will encounter a notification stating the title departs the platform on September 10, reports the Mirror.

The Finnish action blockbuster, which premiered in 2023, takes place during World War II’s final moments.

It follows a solitary gold prospector who stumbles upon retreating Nazi forces across northern Finland’s barren wilderness.

When these troops attempt to steal his precious metal, they quickly discover they’ve targeted far more than an ordinary digger.

A follow-up is in development and sources suggest the trailer might premiere this week.

It’s expected to carry the title Sisu: Road to Revenge with Jalmari Helander returning as both writer and director.

Jorma Tommila will resume his portrayal of Aatami Korpi, whilst Stephen Lang and Richard Brake are joining the ensemble.

Viewers requiring a catch-up ahead of the sequel have under a month to accomplish this.

Sisu maintains a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes with numerous fans and reviewers indicating it merits viewing before its removal. One reviewer exclaimed: “This is what would happen if Quentin Tarantino had ever directed a Clint Eastwood western.”

A second critic penned: “The film is only 93 minutes long but every 15 minutes takes us to a new chapter. What catches your eye is the spectacular cinematography by Kjell Lagerroos. The film also enjoys being barbaric and brutal, it makes bloodshed looks beautiful”.

Meanwhile, a fan claimed: “In the same vein as Taken, Nobody and the John Wick franchise, Sisu is another addition to the “Old man with a certain set of skills” genre. Except this time it’s set at the end of WWII and the bad guys are Nazis. As expected from this kind of film, the plot is simple and the action is gloriously brutal.”

Another viewer agreed: “One of the most brutal movies ever. A theatrical experience which I have missed. A short film with memorable story and plot which is like the biggest compliment for most of the action movies and the slow pacing, direction, limited dialogues with more focus on violence and gore make this movie great.”

Someone else commented: “A masterpiece! This is an absolute adrenaline fuelled hour and 33 minutes of a firecracker. This is what if Quentin Tarantino had directed Rambo.”

Sisu is streaming on Netflix.
