Netflix fans baffled after streaming service releases five most-watched films of all time

Netflix subscribers have shared their shock after seeing the streaming platform’s most popular movies – with some in agreement while others raise an eyebrow. The streaming service has more than 300 million paid memberships worldwide with approximately 17.4 million of those in the UK, so it’s no wonder its top five movies cover various genres.

With rankings based on a total views in the first 91 days of a movie’s release, its top spots are constantly updating as new favourite take over older titles. However, it appears some movies have been clinging onto their top spots for quite some time, with Red Notice coming in at number one with 230,900,000 views.

Starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, the action movie follows “an FBI profiler pursuing the world’s most wanted art thief becomes his reluctant partner in crime to catch an elusive crook who’s always one step ahead”.

Coming in second place, is the 2025 children’s movie KPOP Demon Hunters. The title knocked various others down in standing as it won over younger audiences shortly after its release.

Its description reads: “When K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey aren’t selling out stadiums, they’re using their secret powers to protect their fans from supernatural threats.”

Next, in third, is Carry-On, a 2024 thriller starring Taron Egerton, Sofia Carson, and Jason Bateman.

It tells the story of an “airport security officer races to outsmart a mysterious traveller forcing him to let a dangerous item slip onto a Christmas Eve flight.”

With 171,400,000 views, Don’t Look Up ranks in fourth place. The 2021 comedy’s description reads: “Two astronomers go on a media tour to warn humankind of a planet-killing comet hurtling toward Earth. The response from a distracted world: Meh.”

Finally, in firth, The Adam Project won over audiences in 2022. It follows time-travelling pilot Adam Reed as he teams up with his 12-year-old self on a mission to save the future.

Unconvinced by the selection, one Reddit user said: “What an awful indictment.”

Another user added: “Red Notice was terrible in my opinion.”

A third user said: “Red Notice I got about 5-10 minutes into and decided to watch something else.

“Don’t Look Up is great. Adam Project is a fine little Sci-Fi adventure, nothing particularly great though.

“Carry-On was a fun action/suspense flick. Not amazing, but I didn’t regret watching it.”

One more user said: “Don’t Look Up was okay. The Adam Project was incredibly predictable. I’ll never watch Red Notice.

“They all fit in the same category; easily digested, easily forgotten. None of them will be remembered in 10 years.”

A final user said: “I’m amazed the Adam Project is in there as it didn’t really get advertised or talked about.

“It was better than Red Notice. I quite enjoyed it. Carry-on was fine but could have done with more Kenneth Williams.”
