A thriller movie from the 2000s that fans have called an “underrated gem” has just been added to Netflix UK. The streaming service, which is the most popular in the UK, added a slew of movies to its platform over the month of July, with one of the most recent additions being this 2005 “tense” thriller movie. Netflix added Flightplan to its service on July 28.
Flightplan is one of Jodie Foster’s most iconic films, and the actress was praised for her performance in the psychological thriller. It was a big commercial success when it was released, but critics gave it mixed reviews. Over time, it has become an underrated film within its genre, but fans now have the chance to rediscover it with its new home on Netflix. As well as Jodie Foster, Flightplan stars Peter Sarsgaard and Sean Bean, among many others.
Flightplan sees Foster playing a mother and aircraft engineer who recently lost her husband. She boards a flight from Berlin back to the USA with her daughter and her husband’s body when her daughter goes missing.
She is told there is no record of her daughter on board the flight, so she must search the plane for her six-year-old child and unravel the mystery of what was going on, with many twists and turns that many fans say they never saw coming.
One recent viewer wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: “Just rewatched Flightplan and honestly, it still holds up as one of those tense, contained thrillers that keeps you second-guessing yourself the whole way through.
“Jodie Foster is, as always, spot on. She really nails that frantic energy of a parent who just knows something is wrong, even when everyone else starts treating her like she’s out of her mind.”
Another wrote: “Top-notch acting and great story! Amazing cinematography as well. Too bad it didn’t get the praise it deserved.”
A third said: “Jodie Foster shines in this underrated gem.” A fourth shared: “This is a solid thriller with a good cast and it will keep you guessing.”
However, not everyone was a fan of the movie. In fact, it has a rather low Rotten Tomatoes score of 37%.
One negative review reads: “A very predictable straightforward thriller of a movie where a women tries to find her lost daughter on a plane… every single twist and turn you can see coming a mile away.”
