Netflix adds ‘terrifying’ horror movie – ‘don’t watch if you’re squeamish’

Netflix has added an overlooked horror movie to its catalogue for UK subscribers. The film, which was released in 2023, has an impressive 95% Rotten Tomatoes score and has been described as both “terrifying” and “beautiful.” Netflix has added a slew of new content for Brits over the past week, including series, comedy films, crime dramas and a few horrors. One of its latest additions is a haunting flick that you might not have come across before.

On Friday, August 22, Netflix added a number of titles, including Birth/Rebirth. Starring Judy Reyes (Scrubs, Devious Maids), this horror tells the story of a morgue technician who successfully reanimates the body of a little girl, but must harvest biological materials from pregnant women to keep the child breathing. The girl’s mother discovers that her baby is alive, and enters into a deal with the technician, leading them both down a dark path.

The plot tells a creepy and somewhat disturbing story, which fans have enjoyed. However, some were left disturbed. One reviewer of this film wrote: “I keep getting creeped out and having to walk away… the suspense is stressing me out in a good way! I have been emotionally involved in this story; it is a perfect mix of heartbreaking, hopeful, and terrifying.”

Another said: “It’s not scary but it is gross and if you are squeamish then don’t watch. It is a medical horror movie. I would say it’s more of a lose your appetite movie than a causes sleeplessness movie. You can watch it before bed but not before dinner.”

A third wrote: “It is refreshing to see a movie with such taboo content pull off some genuinely laugh-out-loud dialogue. The dark and subtle humour throughout is just enough to break up the sheer horror of what is unfolding before your eyes. One of my favourite movies of the year.”

Another said: “I was surprised at how suspenseful this was and was constantly on edge anticipating each of the scenes. Did not expect it be this good! More of a real life horror instead of a fictional one.”

Birth/Rebirth is inspired by the 1818 novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. It premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and received rave reviews from critics.

Netflix has added a range of titles for subscribers in the UK over the past week, including Abandoned Man (2025), Death Inc. (2025), Hostage (2025) and Welcome to Sudden Death (2020).
