Netflix adds extended version of 'so bad it's good' horror that gave fans 'panic attacks'

Netflix has amped up the scare factor by dropping an uncut, blood-drenched version of one of the decade’s hit horror flicks.

Originally hitting screens in 2018, this hair-raising supernatural slasher was toned down to secure a PG-13 rating stateside, ensuring it could terrify a younger audience in cinemas.

However, despite a lukewarm critical reception and the axing of a mooted sequel amidst the pandemic chaos, the film has since garnered a rabid cult following among gore aficionados.

Fans have been eagerly consuming this visceral nightmare, which follows a group of college friends facing a fatal twist on the game Truth or Dare during their Mexican spring break.

For UK viewers seeking heightened chills, the grisly extended director’s cut of Truth or Dare, packed with extra horror, has now landed on Netflix, poised for rediscovery.

A fervent five-star Google review claims: “I really liked it. It made me crawl in my skin because it was so uncomfortable to see, and a good type of frightening for me. I love teen horror movies and this one was really good!”

Another declared: “I really liked it and I’m a picky movie watcher. Really unique and different, good plot, solid story and origin that is actually really good and cool. Definitely give it a chance.”

Critics and audiences are raving about the chilling new horror flick that’s been creating a storm across social media. One enthusiastic fan proclaimed: “Amazing Film!! Totally worth watching! This movie is literally one of my favourite horror films. Definitely go check it out!!”

Letterboxd users have also heaped praise on the film, with glowing comments such as: “Never before has a horror film frightened me so much and left me on the edge of my seat to the point of having a panic attack.”

Others went so far as to laud the film in comparison with legendary directors: “Truth Or Dare is definitely a modern horror masterpiece! It’s so fantastic that the greats like Alfred Hitchcock and John Carpenter would be ashamed they ever made a horror film that didn’t live up to the amazing quality that is Blumhouse’s Truth Or Dare!

“F*** Hereditary, THIS is the best horror film and film of 2018! Can’t give it anything more than an A++.”

Yet, amongst the reviews, some have categorised Truth or Dare within the ‘so bad it’s good’ cinematic niche.

A viewer commented: “We need more silly bad movies in the horror genre like this.”

While another remarked: “This is my favourite bad movie. I especially love that they refer to the face people make as a bad snapchat filter.

“It’s too bad they never made the rumoured ‘meta-sequel’ featuring the cast as themselves playing the game. It would have been real cute. This movie walked so Smile could run (I say that half-heartedly.)”

A conclusive comment came from a critic who wasn’t swayed by the hype: “Obviously this is a terrible movie with almost no, legitimate, redeeming qualities about it.

“However, I have seen this movie at least 4 times by now and I think it is one of the absolute best times watching a movie I have ever had. I consistently cry laughing throughout the entire runtime of this ‘so bad it’s good’ masterpiece.

“Like I said, it’s obvious that this isn’t a good movie, but I always have the best experience watching it and showing it to other people.”

Truth or Dare – terrifying, or just plain ridiculous? Watch the extended cut on Netflix to makeup your own mind.

Truth or Dare is available to stream on Netflix.
