Calibre (2018) tells the story of childhood friends Vaughan and Marcus, played by Jack Lowden and Martin McCann, who are out hunting deer in the Scottish Highlands when one of them makes a tragic and traumatic mistake.

Panic ensues, sparking further horror and the pair then try to cover their tracks and escape the area. The film, written and directed by Matt Palmer, was praised by critics and won the prestigious Michael Powell Award for best British Feature at the Edinburgh film festival on the year of its release.

Audience have also raved about it, but warn that it’s a tense watch.

One Audience Reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes wrote: “Such a devastating situation which makes you feel like you are in on it the whole time.

“Great acting that will have you on the edge of your seat the whole movie. Extremely sad and nerve racking throughout.”

Another said: “Brilliant movie. Almost too tense to watch.”

A third added: “I love quiet movies that build the tension, have a stellar cast, and give you a sense of foreboding and atmosphere. This film delivered.

“I have rewatched it multiple times. I keep wanting to come back to it to catch the nuances that I missed the last time. I cannot imagine a better cast, down to the extras.”

The film, which is rated 15, has a 100% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which reflects the percentage of critics approved by the site who have given the film a positive review.

It’s also got a 79% rating on their Popcornometer, reflecting the percentage of users who gave it a rating of 3.5 stars or higher.
