The NBA should look to the WWE model to fix its highly criticized All-Star Saturday night and create its own Royal Rumble of sorts.
Interest in the NBA’s Saturday night slate has waned over the years as the once-anticipated spectacle that is the dunk contest has become the equivalent of the poorly booked main event featuring mid-carders and some enhancement talent that brings down the rest of a solid card.
So what has WWE done over the years when it’s needed to boost interest in an event, get a spike in the ratings or boost ticket sales? The company has traditionally leaned on creating new match types, bringing back legends, bringing in stars from outside of wrestling to create anticipation, some surprise and dream matchups.
The NBA can do the same thing with the simplest of basketball games: Knockout.
