Peaky Blinders fans can delve into Cillian Murphy’s career before his Tommy Shelby days in this ‘gripping’ thriller from two decades past.
Red Eye follows a hotel manager whose world gets turned upside down when a mysterious stranger takes the seat beside her during a flight home.
She swiftly discovers he poses a danger to her own family as he insists she assist him in a scheme to murder a Government official or witness her father’s death.
Yet the crucial question remains: how far will she go to safeguard her loved ones, or might there be an escape route?
Red Eye becomes available this week on Tuesday, September 16, via BBC iPlayer where viewers can watch the film at no cost.
Red Eye might not boast the largest ensemble but it does showcase some of the globe’s most celebrated stars.
Spearheading the cast as the menacing stranger is Peaky Blinders’ Tommy Shelby legend Cillian Murphy.
Several of his most notable performances include Oppenheimer, Batman Begins, A Quiet Place Part II, Inception and 28 Years Later.
He appears alongside actress Rachel McAdams, renowned for her roles in both The Notebook and Mean Girls, who plays the troubled hotel manager Lisa.
Additional principal cast members feature Succession icon Brian Cox as the father whom Murphy’s character threatens to eliminate, plus Glee favourite Jayma Mays as Lisa’s friend and workmate.
Admirers of Red Eye have flocked to Rotten Tomatoes to praise the thriller’s merits since its original release in 2005.
“Red Eye is immensely entertaining and a fine example of the classic suspense-thriller”, someone remarked. Someone else wrote: “When taking place at the airport and on a plane, “Red Eye” is pitch perfect.
“The cloistered space and confined quarters ratchets up the suspense, often to uncomfortable (but welcomed) levels.”
While a third described it as “a classy thriller that scoots along at breakneck speed.”
Red Eye will be released on Tuesday, September 16, on BBC iPlayer.
