Must watches coming to Netflix this month – including WW2 Blitz documentary

And so the time comes again, as ever, where Netflix refresh their catalogue to entice a new audience. Additions coming later this month are not for the faint-hearted. It’s a war-filled, crime-fueled, action-packed month for the streaming platform. These are my top picks coming to Netflix for the month ahead.

Britain and the Blitz (May 5)

A new WW2 documentary feature film is hitting our screens on Monday. The immersive documentary features archive footage detailing the experiences of civilians in Britain during the Blitz. It will include vividly restored archival footage as well as many emotional first-hand accounts from those who lived through the devastating period of history.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (May 11)

Tom Cruise’s most recent installment of the action packed spy film will make it on to the platform just ahead of the next chapter, which is released at the end of the month. As Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his IMF team race to prevent a rogue artificial intelligence from taking over the world, they encounter enemies at every turn, will they succeed? If that’s your bag, then take the time to catch up before the release of Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning.

Fred and Rose West: A British Horror Story (May 14)

This is a documentary about two of Britain’s most prolific murderers, Fred and Rose West. Using recovered police recordings, their horrifying story is told in first-person accounts. The film will detail on how they tortured, raped and murdered an unknown number of women in Gloucester between 1967 and 1987. It will focus on the families on the victims and how the crimes were uncovered. Netflix said the documentary would give “insight into the pain and torment” that the families “went through for decades”.

Sirens (May 22)

This brand new limited series starring Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, Julianne Moore and Kevin Bacon hits our screens later in the month. It’s a dark comedy that unfolds throughout one explosive weekend at a lavish beach estate. Devon, played by Fahy, is concerned about her sister Simone’s (Alcock) creepy relationship with her new boss and decides it’s time for an intervention. The series has been described as an “incisive, sexy and darkly funny exploration of women, power and class.

Kill Your Friends (May 23)

We’re turning back in time to 1997 but the Britpop industry isn’t churning out tunes anymore. However, ruthless music executive, played by Nicholas Hoult, won’t let that stop his career. The comedy-thriller was originally released in 2015 and is based on John Niven’s novel and explores the darker side of the industry.
