When it comes to holidays, do you prefer to visit tourist hotspots or hidden gems? If you answered with the second option, you’ll probably be interested in hearing more about this beach that doesn’t get as much love as other tourist spots.
Even though Portofino in Italy is highly popular, there are plenty of tourists who miss out on this gorgeous stretch of coastline.
The beautiful cove is called Baia Cannone, which is surrounded by colourful villas on the breathtaking cliffs.
It also boasts crystal clear waters and is completyely free to visit. You can opt to take a yacht trip or simply enjoy going for a paddle in the azure sea.
A visitor recently took to TikTok to show off the sheer beauty of the place.
The content creator called @leiitravels told her 13,000 followers that many miss out on the beach because there are plenty of other options around.
However, doing so can be a big mistake! She said: “I can’t believe people visit Portofino, Italy but miss this beach. Save it for your trip to the Italian Riviera.”
The short clip has garnered more than 1.1 million views and plenty of people took to the comments section to share their thoughts.
One commented and said: “Visited today, it’s worth it.” Another wrote: “Excited to visit this place soon. Very beautiful!”
One individual who is excited to visit, said: “Two weeks until this is real.” A fourth gushed: “Looks like paradise.”
Meanwhile, another commented: “Super quiet early in the morning, great spot. Back here in 2 weeks.”
Getting there
To get to Portofino from the UK, try flying to Genoa for the closest airport. Alternatively, you can also get there from Milan or Pisa.
Then as you leave the town of Portofino, on the main road in the direction of Paraggi, you will see a staircase leading down to the beach.
It’s a 10 minute walk from the town. You could also take the ferry to Baia Cannone to enjoy the amazing sea views.
The best time to visit Baia Cannone is in late spring and September. That’s because, not only will you get lovely warm weather – perfect for swimming – but you will also avoid to busiest crowds that are more likely in summer.
While most people just pop there for the day, you could stay nearby. A sea-view apartment or villa might be ideal.
There are several accomodation spots in the area but they tend to be four and five star. Popular hotels include Hotel Piccolo Portofino, Hotel Argentina, and Hotel Eden.
