Murder probe after 24-year-old man stabbed to death in Sheffield


A murder probe was launched after a man found fighting for his life with multiple stab wounds in a park died at the scene. South Yorkshire Police launched the investigation following the death of the 24-year-old man in Ponderosa Park in Sheffield.

Emergency services were called at 4.35am today, Saturday, March 9, following reports of a man found with multiple stab wounds. Despite the efforts of police and paramedics the man died at the scene, which was sealed off for forensic examination.

No formal identification of the man has taken place, but his family have been informed and are being supported by officers. No arrests have been made.

In a separate incident, a man in his 20s was hospitalised after a reported stabbing in West Street in the city, also in the early hours. South Yorkshire Police have stated that officers are not treating the incidents as linked.

A 26-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after suffering multiple stab wounds in the attack in West Street.

Two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, have been arrested in connection to the incident on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon in public place. They remain in police custody.

Two knives were also located and recovered near to the scene.

In another separate unrelated development, two large knives that had been hidden in parts of the city were recovered by police during an unconnected operation on Thursday.
