A woman who brutally killed her son’s dog with a Samurai sword and then lied it had attacked her has been jailed. The Staffordshire cross was left with the weapon lodged in its body after the “abhorrent” act of cruelty.

Alicia Darcy, 54, executed the sickening attack while the animal was asleep. At Chester Crown Court, she admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and possession of an offensive weapon in a private place.

She received an 18-month prison sentence and was issued a disqualification order prohibiting her from having any involvement with animals. The Samurai sword was confiscated for destruction.

The court was informed that on 12th October 2024, Darcy, under the influence of alcohol, phoned the police to report that her son’s dog had attacked her and she had killed it.

Officers arrived at the scene to discover a dog lying on the sofa in a sleeping position with a samurai sword embedded in its torso.

Darcy, from Platt Avenue, Sandbach, Cheshire, confessed to the police that she stabbed the dog while it was resting on the couch.

PC Charlotte Owen stated: “This was a very distressing case for everyone involved. The level of cruelty was abhorrent.

“She left the dog to die with the sword embedded in it. It is incomprehensible how someone could not only inflict such violence on an animal but then be so callous as to leave it to suffer.”
