Mum of Princess Beatrice's stepson posts cryptic message describing 'challenging' 2023

The mother of Princess Beatrice’s stepson has described her struggles in 2023, with a desperate hope that the new year will bring change. Dara Huang shared a cryptic post on Instagram saying “2023 was actually a really challenging year for me” – before listing off all the long-haul holidays she’d been on.

The American architect was previously engaged to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and the pair share son Christopher ‘Wolfie’ Mapelli Mozzi together. The two went their separate ways in 2018, breaking off the engagement.

Two years later, Edoardo was married to Princess Beatrice – daughter of Prince Andrew – having daughter Sienna Elizabeth in 2021.

Dara, meanwhile, has hung back in America, although does see Wolfie fairly regularly – including at Christmas this year, which they spent in Florida.

She wrote to her 62.5k Instagram followers: “2023 was actually a really challenging year for me. Won’t go into the details but definitely the year with the most changes.” The architect, who has previously worked in London and contributed to developments on the Tate Modern, then added: “I’m not sure why but I just have this feeling that 2024 is going to be our year and a lot of positivity is going to come out of it and I’m so excited and ready!”

She then described how she travelled extensively on “workidays”, which is “when I have to travel for work and I turn it into a holiday”. Her 2023 included some bucket list locations, including Miami, London, Paris, Venice, Ibiza, Frankfurt, New York City and Greece.

Wolfie, meanwhile, is now a popular member of the Royal Family, with Sarah Ferguson branding him as her grandson. While last year’s Christmas was spent in the States, the year before was spent in Norfolk with Beatrice, Edoardo and half-sister Sienna.

Dara has expressed her relief that her son, Wolfie, is being educated in the UK. She wants him to be safe at school, and fears that American schools are too exposed to mass shootings for it to not play on her mind.
