Few assets provide more strategic upside in fantasy baseball than players with multi-position eligibility.

These versatile performers deliver critical roster flexibility, allowing managers to navigate injuries, days off and tough matchup decisions without sacrificing offensive production.

When these players get hot at the plate, their defensive versatility makes it significantly easier to keep their bats in the lineup nightly, turning good teams into juggernauts. Adding the right multi-position contributors from the waiver wire can instantly transform your roster construction and weekly optimization.

Ezequiel Duran of the Rangers stands out as a prime waiver target with exceptional flexibility. He currently qualifies at first base and shortstop in most leagues, with eligibility at second base, third base and the outfield in many formats. This broad utility makes him a plug-and-play asset across multiple roster slots.

With Corey Seager on the injured list, Duran has been getting regular starts at shortstop. Even when Seager returns, Rangers manager Skip Schumaker has shown a clear willingness to find creative ways to keep Duran’s potent bat in the lineup. His recent performance justifies that confidence.

For the month of May, Duran is hitting .300 with three home runs, 15 RBIs, 12 runs scored and one stolen base. Over the previous seven days entering Friday, he has posted a strong .386 wOBA and .222 ISO — adding one home run, eight RBIs and four runs scored.

That combination of power, contact, and run production, paired with his ability to fill nearly any infield or outfield spot, makes Duran a high-impact addition for contending teams needing depth or flexibility.

Another standout waiver wire option is Casey Schmitt of the Giants. Schmitt qualifies at second and third base, with first base eligibility in many leagues. His defensive range across the infield gives manager Tony Vitello options when constructing daily lineups, especially during roster crunches or bye weeks.

Despite the recent call-up of top prospect Bryce Eldridge, Schmitt has remained a consistent presence in the Giants’ lineup thanks to his scorching bat. In May, he is batting .281 with five home runs, eight RBIs, nine runs scored and two stolen bases. His performance over the past week has been particularly explosive with a massive .507 wOBA and .391 ISO, fueled by three home runs in that span.

Schmitt’s ability to drive the ball with authority while maintaining multi-position value makes him a difference-maker for teams chasing power and average.

The beauty of players such as Duran and Schmitt lies in their ability to simplify complex roster decisions. Instead of benching a hot hitter because of positional logjams, managers can slide them into optimal slots, maximizing plate appearances and production. In deeper leagues or during injury spikes, this flexibility often separates playoff teams from also-rans.

If your fantasy roster needs a jolt, prioritize adding Duran and Schmitt while they remain available on waivers. Their current hot streaks, combined with broad eligibility, position them to deliver sustained value well into the season. By embracing multi-position players, you gain the strategic edge needed to build a more resilient and dominant fantasy baseball squad.
