A sweet treat sold by Marks & Spencer is being urgently recalled from shelves over concerns that it may pose a “health risk” to some customers. A batch of M&S Milk Chocolate Honeycomb was found to contain peanuts not mentioned on the label.

A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency said: “This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts. If you have bought the above product and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat it.”

Sensitivity to peanuts is one of the most common food allergies in the UK.

Around one in children are affected, with rates rising in recent decades.

The recall applies to 120g packs of the chocolate with the lot number 5242 and a best before date of May 12, 2026.

A notice issued by M&S added: “Please do not consume this product if you have an allergy or intolerance to peanuts.

“If you wish to exchange the product, you can return it to your nearest store where a full refund will be given.

“We apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused.”

Symptoms of a peanut allergy can range from mild to severe and include hives, itching, swelling of the lips and face and digestive problems.

The notice added: “Customer safety is of paramount importance to Marks & Spencer and we take all issues regarding the production of our foods extremely seriously.”
