Mr. Beast has beaten Mark Zuckerberg − and everyone else − to become the first person to hit 1 million followers on Instagram Threads, according to Guinness World Records.
Zuckerberg was the second person to hit 1 million followers on the app launched this week by his company, Meta.
According to Guinness, Mr. Beast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, hit the milestone at 9:42 a.m. EST on July 6, just a few hours after he joined the app. As of Friday, Mr. Beast had 38.4 million followers on Instagram.
Guinness also shared a video of how they monitored his follower count on Twitter.
In response to the video, Mr. Beast commented, “Shhhh, don’t let the Twitter police know I’m cheating on them”.
In a statement, the site also clarified that Mr. Beast was the first individual (not an organization) to hit 1 million followers.
“While technically his wasn’t the first account to reach the number, the others belonged to organizations like Instagram and National Geographic,” read their statement.
Mr. Beast’s, whose bio on Threads reads: “Future Threads CEO”, hit 1 million followers after posting just three times.
His first post, shortly after the app went live, read: “Soooooo, how long until we’re also addicted to this app? Lol.”

Zuckerberg’s Threads, a new social media platform for Instagram users, went live on Thursday and is aiming to be a “friendly” alternative to Twitter for people who don’t like the changes Elon Musk has made since he bought Twitter in October 2022.
More than 30 million people have signed up for the largely text-based app, as of Thursday. It’s available in over 100 countries and 30 languages. Celebrities including singer Shakira, NFL star Tom Brady and chef Gordan Ramsay are already on board.
