Many movie fans appear to be in agreement over one film being the best of all time.
The film, which released in 1994, has received two sequels over the last three decades, and some fans believe only the second instalment in the trilogy is better than the first.
They say every other movie released, from Hollywood classics like The Godfather, to art house masterpieces like The Tree of Life are nowhere close to the film in question.
One fan has gone viral on social media site X, after writing: “Best movie of all time and the sequel might be even better.” The film has received constant praise from movie lovers for the chemistry between its cast and the heartwrenching conclusion to its story.
People were left calling it a “masterpiece” with its sequel considered a “perfect film.” Both titles, starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, feature as part of the Before Trilogy.
Before Sunrise and Before Sunset were singled out by viewers, with the chemistry on screen and direction of Richard Linklater hailed as some of the best work to date.
One fan wrote: “Before Sunrise is a masterpiece. Before Sunset is a completely perfect film. It takes the first one’s ticking clock and makes it almost literal.
“Every second that passes is a second closer to saying goodbye and they do not want to say goodbye. Baby, you are gonna miss that plane.”
Another added: “Love the second. Third one is amazing too. It’s a very specific lived in love that I feel only people who have been in something long term will understand.
“That thin line between love and hate. It’s a very specific tone but I think it works more and more the older I get.” Other viewers are still surprised that, decades later, the romantic drama has a “tension” like no other film has.
Someone else wrote: “The first movie had its tension for the first 30 minutes until the kiss happened, the second movie, they had tension for the whole movie.”
New listeners were just as thrilled with the films, saying it made its way into their top films of all time almost immediately. One person said: “I finally decided to watch before sunrise last week and I loved it so much I immediately put it in my top 4.
“Might change at some point and I still gotta watch the other 2 but man what a movie.” Another fan asked: “If this is the best movie of all time but the sequel is better, wouldn’t the sequel be the best movie of all time?”
A third added: “I NEED to watch this so badly. My brother got the criterion boxset so I will borrow that but I might just get Before Sunrise anyway.”
