Spring is a time to freshen up the home, but the rise in temperature and April showers can cause mould to fester in your bedroom if you are not careful. Rainy, warm weather will increase the humidity in homes, and if the moisture builds up, then it will create the perfect environment for mould spores to thrive.
A very simple way to keep humidity levels down is to open a window to allow fresh air into a room, but in springtime, this can cause pollen to settle in your bedroom. If you want to keep your bedroom comfortable without affecting your sleep, then Aimee Rayner, an expert from Happy Beds, has shared that certain houseplants can banish mould, dust and pollen from your home.

Aimee said: “Plants in the bedroom have several health and wellness benefits. As well as being a decorative touch that adds instant style to your space, having plants in the bedroom can help you sleep better, promote relaxation, [and] purify the air.”
Many houseplants come from tropical rainforests, and the best way for them to absorb water in their native environment is to take it from the air, so having them in your home will greatly reduce the humidity.
These plants will not only absorb moisture but can also take in airborne toxins like mould spores, dust and pollen to naturally filter the air.
This is a natural way to prevent mould and pollen from settling in your home this spring, so you can keep your bedroom comfortable no matter how rainy the weather gets.

What are the best houseplants to have in your bedroom in spring?
Spider plants
Spider plants are known for their stripy green and white leaves, which not only look interesting but are practical as they are one of the best plants to improve humidity levels.
Aimee said: “Spider plants have become popular in recent years for a few reasons. One, they’re super easy to care for as they only need occasional watering and can survive in indirect sunlight. Two, they simply look stunning!”
These pretty plants come from a very dry climate, so they will improve the air quality and are simple to keep alive as they do not need to be watered very often.
Spider plants are also not toxic to pets, so they may be the best plant to have if you are a dog or cat owner.
Peace lilies
Peace lilies are known for their beautiful white flowers that look elegant sitting in a bedroom, and also help regulate humidity to make the air in your home healthier to breathe in.
Aimee said: “For a visually appealing flowering plant for the bedroom, a peace lily is a perfect choice. These plants help filter out harmful toxins while also giving off moisture that helps keep humidity in your room at a good level – great for a healthy sleeping atmosphere.”
Peace lilies need to be watered roughly every one to two weeks when their soil has dried out but are generally quite low maintenance.
It should be noted that peace lilies are mildly toxic to pets, so they need to be kept far out of their reach if you have dogs or cats.

English ivy
English ivy is a magnificent climbing plant that will look beautiful hanging on a bookshelf or on top of a wardrobe, and wil also keep mould out of your home.
It will help pull toxins, dust and pollen out of the air so there is less chance of mould spores settling on a surface. It is also very adaptable and can survive in a range of light conditions, soit can be placed anywhere in a bedroom.
Aimee said: “This plant is low maintenance, releases oxygen and absorbs air pollutants – all great news for a bedroom plant! It’s also a super stylish plant with tons of visual appeal.”
While English ivy is safe to have around children, it is toxic to pets and can greatly harm them if they ingest the leaves. Keep it somewhere high out of reach for any curious animals.
