Motorists can improve fuel economy by 20 percent by fitting the right tyres to their car

The manufacturer Davanti Tyres has offered a number of tips to help motorists get the best deal when buying a new set of tyres for their car.

Whilst drivers are often looking for ways to cut down on the cost of motoring, it is necessary to replace a vehicles tyres once their treads fall below 1.6mm.

Peter Cross, General Manager of Davanti Tyres, noted that drivers should never feel put off when buying a set of tyres, stating the process of choosing the right ones for their car can be incredibly straightforward.

He advised: “Choosing the right tyre doesn’t need to be as overwhelming as it can first seem. Thinking about these simple elements means when you take your car to the garage, you can talk clearly about what you want and need, ensuring your garage fits the right tyre for you.

“As a tyre manufacturer, we have spent years developing tyres to make sure drivers get the best experience possible and enjoy driving with confidence whatever the weather or road surface.”

First, Davanti Tyres recommended that drivers make sure they know the recommended size for their vehicle, which is printed on the sidewalls of the current tyres and in the vehicle handbook.

The string of letters and numbers features information on the width, profile, rim size, load capacity and speed, meaning it is important to be accurate when ordering a new set.

In particular, the company warned against drivers who buy a new set of tyres that are too small or have a lower load capacity for the vehicle, which can cause a loss in power and more wear to components.

Motorists were also advised to make sure that their new set of tyres offers enough grip for the driving conditions they are expected to be used in.

Davanti Tyres noted that different models of tyres are meant to be used in certain conditions and temperatures, meaning it is important for drivers to determine whether they typically drive on roads that are wet, icy, dry or hot.

Motorists who are unsure of this can get an all-season tyre which may not offer as much protection under some conditions, such as snow and ice, but are generally more versatile.

Finally, the company suggested that choosing the right tyres can offer drivers better value for money, warning that tyres that are cheaper to buy can end up being more expensive in the long run.

This is because more affordable tyres use a lower grade of rubber that is generally softer, meaning that they can wear out up to 40,000 miles before premium tyres do.

Davanti Tyres also suggested that drivers can improve the fuel economy of their vehicle by fitting a set of efficient tyres, noting that they can reduce consumption by up to 20 percent.
