This film has topped a list for being the most underrated thriller of all time and it’s one that will have you on the edge of your seat. Thrillers are one of the most gripping genres of film and this 2018 hit is no exception.
Burning (2018) follows the story of South Korean deliveryman Jong-su who is out on a job when he runs into Hae-mi, a girl who once lived in his neighborhood. She asks if he’d mind looking after her cat while she’s away on a trip to Africa. On her return, she introduces to Jong-su an enigmatic young man named Ben, who she met during her trip. Hae-mi suddenly disappears and Jong-Su struggles to get answers from Ben.
GamesRadar said: “An adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s short story “Barn Burning,” Lee Chang-dong’s Burning simmers with psychological complexity and invites multiple interpretations.”
It adds: “Burning is layered with ambiguity, grabbing hold of the viewer tight and refusing to let go even after the credits roll.

One person who watched the film on Letterboxed said: “Re watch. First time I saw this was in a cinema and was had no clue what I was in for. Based on a story from my favourite author, it still holds up and is so well done.
“The shot at sunset I had been thinking about for years with the bird shadow puppet. The eeriness backdrop I feel to the core which is held by strong performances, awesome sustained shots and a great score that threadlines.”
Another penned: “Some of the best acting you’ll ever see (especially from Yeun) and easily one of the best films of the 21st century.”
