Morrisons and Lidl confirm Boxing Day bank holiday opening hours


Over the Christmas season, Morrisons and Lidl are making adjustments to their store hours to accommodate the holidays. 

Here’s a guide to Morrisons’ and Lidl opening times, so you can plan your seasonal shopping with ease.

Morrisons

On Christmas Eve, falling on a Sunday this year, Morrisons will adhere to its usual Sunday hours, welcoming shoppers from 10am to 4pm. 

On Christmas Day, all Morrisons supermarkets will be closed to allow staff to enjoy time with loved ones. 

However, the doors will reopen on Boxing Day, operating with reduced hours from 9am to 6pm, though these hours may vary based on location.

For more precise information, customers are encouraged to check their nearest branch’s opening hours using the store finder tool on the Morrisons website. 

From December 27 to December 30, Morrisons expects to resume normal trading hours, but it’s advised to verify with the specific store as holiday hours can differ.

Morrisons shoppers will notice varied opening hours between December 20 and 30 this year:

  • December 20 – 7am to 10pm. 
  • December 21 – 23 – 6am to midnight. 
  • Christmas Eve (December 24)- 10am to 4pm (Sunday hours). 
  • Christmas Day (December 25) – closed. 
  • Boxing Day (December 26) – 9am to 6pm. 
  • December 27 – 7am to 10Pm
  • December 31 – 10 am to 4pm
  • New Years Day – 9am to 6pm
  • January 2 – 7am to 10pm 

Plus, Morrisons is giving away free carrots this Christmas from December 22 to 24. Find them at the front of 496 store branches.

With 960 stores spread across the UK, the supermarket chain encourages customers to use the Lidl store finder tool on its website.  This tool provides accurate and up-to-date information on the opening hours of specific stores.

Christmas Eve: On December 24, Lidl stores will be open from 7am to 6pm, allowing ample time for shoppers to grab the essentials for their Christmas feasts. 

This extended opening period caters to the bustling activity as people make their final preparations for the big day.

Christmas Day: Lidl will be closed on Christmas Day, providing both customers and staff the opportunity to enjoy the holiday with friends and family. 

This aligns with many supermarkets, acknowledging the significance of the festive season.

Boxing Day: For those who may need to make post-Christmas grocery runs, Lidl will resume operations on Boxing Day. 

On December 26, stores will be open from 11am to 5pm, offering a limited but convenient window for shoppers.

New Year’s Day: Similar to Christmas Day, Lidl will remain closed on New Year’s Day, marking the beginning of the new year. 

This closure allows staff members to enjoy the holiday and highlights the importance of taking a break during the festive season.

It’s important to note that Lidl’s opening times can vary based on location.
