This is the moment Billie, a defenceless spaniel dog kidnapped by Hamas terrorists, was found alive. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was still a pup when it was abducted along with its owner, Alex Dancyg, on October 7, 2023 as Hamas jihadists raided the Nir Oz Kibbutz.
A total of 47 people were killed and 76 taken hostage in the brutal attack on his home. Alex, the son of Holocaust survivors, required medication following heart surgery and was confirmed dead in captivity eight months later. And since then, Billie had been assumed lost forever.
But miraculously, he was spotted by an Israeli reservist as members of the Golani Brigade searched the ruins in Rafah.
Now three-and-a-half years old, the Spaniel is said to have emerged alone and trembling from the ruins of a building and walked up to the troops.
A reservist, called Aviad, immediately bundled Billie up and offered the dog some water.
Back at base, Aviad took the spaniel to a local veterinarian for a check-up.
An examination revealed that the dog was wearing an electronic chip, and further inquiry confirmed its identity.
Billie has now been reunited with Alex’ ex-wife, Rachel, and is said to be doing well.
The story was revealed by journalist Hanoch Daum, who wrote: “The owners of this sweet dog have been found.
“A family that has gone through a terrible tragedy – but perhaps they will find some comfort now as they reunite with their beloved dog, who survived a year and a half alone in Gaza! And thanks to our reservists who, even during this holiday, keep us safe.”
